Welcome to the winter here in Emerald Lakes! Several concerns are tied to this time of year, and they all bear keeping in mind. First, whenever possible, park off the streets. Even the best of drivers, traveling at a slow speed, can skid in icy winter conditions. And ice isn't always obvious, hiding under snow.

For that same reason, please take the roads through our development slower than posted. Stopping times on icy pavement can be longer than expected. It's best to be on the safe side.

According to Montville Township, homeowners are responsible for keeping sidewalks in front of their houses clear of snow and ice.

Finally, don't go out on the lakes. They may look solid, but nothing can spoil your day like discovering how wrong you are after falling in and developing a case of hypothermia. It's just not worth it—to you, to your loved ones, to all of us in the Emerald Lakes community.

Remember, the final due date for homeowner dues is just a few days away, January 31st. After that, there's a late fee. You can mail your check on to ELHOA Treasurer Richard Groux, 3519 Lake Ridge Drive, or just drop it in his mailbox.

At the last public ELHOA meeting on November 9th, our president, Don Brunner, resigned and left the trustees. He worked for a long time in various capacities, and has become known to many here in the Emerald Lakes community in the process. I'm sure you'll join with all of us in thanking him for his years of service.

On a related note, the trustees unanimously accepted an application from Danielle Zinn at our February 18th meeting to serve as member-at-large. We'd like to welcome her to the board.

That's it from us. Keep bundled up and well! We'll speak again this Spring.
