Winter has arrived—and that means snow, with rising and declining temperatures ensuring a nice, slick layer of hidden ice on the streets and walkways. So let's all be careful out there. Take the roads and especially the turns slower than usual. Be prepared to brake for anything: some area wildlife, including deer, continue to roam freely during the season. So do humans, and their pets. Smart drivers aren't fooled by the apparently dry snow, and neither are pedestrians. We want to see all of you in our community healthy this coming Spring, in time for the next newsletter.

That ties into another point: try to park (and get your guests to park) in your driveway this winter. While there are no township ordinances against street parking in subdivisions after a snowfall—though street parking is prohibited between 2 and 6 AM—it makes sense to minimize the chance of a passing vehicle skidding out of control and hitting your parked car. Township snow removal services for the roads are scheduled to begin at 4 AM, but that doesn't mean the underlying roads themselves will be dry or free from ice.

So far we've been fortunate this season when it comes to precipitation, but we all know it isn't going to last. This means a buildup of snow and especially ice on trees, so watch out for downed limbs on the streets.

We're still seeing some hearty (or read: obsessive) souls jogging out there, despite freezing temperatures. While a few will remain even after snowfalls, they often taken the streets which are county-maintained. Please watch carefully for them.

And finally, while on the subject of winter, remember that the lakes aren't safe—not for dogs, much less for people. Even at its sustained coldest, there are patches of our lakes that don't freeze thoroughly, and there's no easy way to tell those apart from the rest. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
That's it from us. We'll be speaking with you again this coming Spring. Until then!
